Dr. Dragan Mihailović, an extremely well-established researcher in the field of condensed matter, successfully won the third ERC project called HIMMS (Hidden metastable mesoscopic states in quantum materials). The project will be implemented in cooperation with the Jožef Stefan Institute and the Nanocenter. The five-year project, worth almost 2.5 million euros, will be focused on the experimental investigation of undiscovered metastable arrangements in quantum materials with an emphasis on the development of experimental methods that enable imaging of the movement of individual electrons with exceptional atomic spatial and temporal resolution. This will expand the understanding of basic processes in quantum systems on different time scales, which has an important impact both for basic research and for the further development of quantum computers. This achievement strengthens the international reputation of Slovenian scientists and confirms the success of scientific research in Slovenia.
